Mentoring Programme with Hampshire Police

Mentoring Programme with Hampshire Police

On Friday 16th March, we held our second event as part of the Mentoring Programme with Hampshire Police at their Police Training Centre in Netley. We’ve been keeping in touch with the cohort via conference calls, receiving lots of positive and constructive feedback, but this was the first time seeing the cohort face to face since our event in Hursley last November. And at such a scenic location! Very similar to our IBM Hursley House….

Meet Alex…..hear his story of life as an IBM apprentice

I’m Alex Best, from the London Borough of Redbridge. I’m based in Southbank, where I currently work in Brand and Communications. Soon I am very excited to say that I will be moving to an iX apprenticeship in Global Business Services. Why I chose to become an apprentice started with understanding the best way for me to learn and goes back to the “earn as you learn” initiative that all apprenticeships are based upon. Apprenticeships…

Behind the scenes… England Rugby Training session

Behind the scenes… England Rugby Training session

What is your role at IBM? I am a Technology Consultant on the Consulting by Degrees graduate programme within GBS. I started at IBM in October 2017 so I’ve only been at IBM for about 4 months. I’m on my first project at the moment. How did you get into rugby? I’ve never actually played rugby because, unsurprisingly, being tackled with the full weight and force of another human being doesn’t appeal to me! But…

Meet Ashleigh…..hear her story of life as an IBM apprentice

I am Ashleigh Denholm and I work within the labs as part of the CICS Market Enablement Team based in Hursley, Winchester. Upon leaving school I began a Primary Education Degree at the University of Strathclyde. However, a career in education was not the path for me. I began looking into different careers and I was faced with two options: begin a new university course or look at alternative avenues. I heard about IBM apprenticeships…

Meet Jack…..hear his story of life as an IBM apprentice

I’m Jack Wadsted and I work at IBM in Hursley as a Software Developer on a Government defence project within Global Business Services.  At college, a former student came in to talk to us about the school leavers programmes at IBM. With the idea of going to university firmly ingrained in my mind by the college, I first joined IBM on a gap year placement, with a deferred place at university to do Computer Science….

Meet Aaron…..hear his story of life as an IBM apprentice

Hello, I’m Aaron Kinchen, I’m based in London and I work as a technical consultant within the IBM Security business unit. I specialise in the security Guardium product, which is a database activity monitoring solution to prevent and protect your business data while also averting the insider threat. I’ve always learnt better by “doing”. Having the opportunity to learn and work while earning was something I did not want to miss. IBM offered a fantastic…

Meet Howard…..hear his story of life as an IBM apprentice

I’m Howard Jackson and currently I’m an apprentice at IBM. I chose to become an apprentice because at the time it was the best pathway for me to follow post A levels. I thought that working with programmers, testers and PM’s on real projects for clients would be better for my development than the theoretical knowledge I believed I would learn at Uni. I have been able to work all over the country with clients…

Meet Amy….. hear about her life as an IBM apprentice

My name is Amy Magistris, I’m a third year Degree Apprentice, studying at Queen Mary University of London and based in Southbank and I’m currently working in the Rapid Prototyping Team. I chose to become a degree apprentice because in 2014 I was on IBM’s Futures Scheme, where I became involved in many careers fairs and had the opportunity to learn about IBM’s many other programmes. I decided to apply for the Apprenticeship, when my…
